What is a stretcher?

A stretcher is the frame support over which canvas is stretched for painting. Traditionally, they are wooden, however other materials may also be used. Aluminum is a good example of an alternate material choice.

What is egg tempera?

This is the paint medium that was used for panel painting in the middle ages before oils took over. It involves the use of a pigment suspended in an egg medium.

What is intaglio?

Intaglio techniques are a family of printmaking options. They involve creating incisions into a matrix or a plate. Dry point, mezzotint, aquatint, etching, and engraving are a few different ways in which surfaces such as copper or zinc plates may be incised.
